Asus ZenFone 3 : Three new giants from Asus

After the success of Zenfone 2, Asus comes with the new series of Asus Zenfone: the Zenfone 3!

Like Zenfone 2s, Zenfone 3 will have different models with different screen sizes and specifications. They all have a new design, apparently Asus has been working on the weaknesses of old Zenfone.

Good news, They all have fingerprint scanners at the back side below the camera, and the volume button moved to the side.

Let’s take a look at the new Zenfone family.

Zenfone 3

This basic model has a 5.5-inch Full HD Super IPS+ display. As processor, It has Snapdragon’s 625, with up to 4 GB of RAM, 3,000mAH battery.

16 MP rear camera with laser autofocus is also on-board.

Zenfone 3 Deluxe

The Zenfone 3 Deluxe is the most powerful of the three. It has a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display.

Deluxe has the latest and the most powerful Snapdragon 820 processor alongside the Adreno 530 GPU and up to 6 GB of RAM. Zenfone 3 Deluxe will be the first smartphone to come with 6 GB of RAM.

zenfone 3 cameraThe rear camera is 23 MP, using the Sony IMX318 sensor, and Asus’s laser autofocus. We’re looking forward to check its results.

Zenfone 3 Ultra

The Zenfone 3 Ultra is a beast with its 6.8-inch Full HD LCD display. Inside there’s a Snapdragon 652, up to 4GB of RAM, the same 23-megapixel camera as the Deluxe, and 4,600mAH battery.

Your Android TV can be hacked!

Life gets easier with smart phones, smart TVs and the next “internet of things” era. However we also become a target for hackers day by day!

According to Trend Micro blog, an Android mobile lock-screen ransomware, called Flocker, can lock a smart Android TV, too!

It basically locks the device, then asks a ransom to unlock it. The principle is almost same as CryptoLocker on PCs. (but this one doesn’t encrypt files)

The latest variant of FLocker is a police Trojan that pretends to be US Cyber Police or another law enforcement agency. It accuses potential victims of crimes they didn’t commit. Then, it demands 200 USD worth of iTunes gift cards.  )

Solution? Not known now. We just have to be careful with these Android smart TVs and try not to click any suspicious/unknown links.

A way to increase your iPhone’s memory

As you might know, Apple devices’ memory cannot be increased by a memory card. If you bought 16gb versiyon, it is 16gb forever. However some companies tried to overcome this, and came up with an idea.

SanDisk has released a new video about a phone case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s which gives extra storage to your device. But you need to install SanDisk’s management app first, then reach your files with it. It is simple yet pretty useful for an iPhone user.

Elon Musk’s Artificial Intelligence Plan: OpenAI

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla Motors, and Sam Altman, the president of startup incubator Y Combinator, announced their Artificial Intelligence project called OpenAI. It is a non-profit AI research company and It aims to benefit the whole humanity.

As they claim, being free from financial obligations will create a
better environment for researchers and developers who will help achieving a positive impact on humanity, and/or world as well. Te outcome of the project is not clearly known, but It is believed that the goal is right.

You will notice the word “Open” in its name, yes, It will be available for developers to use in their projects or to develop new technologies etc.

If OpenAI stays true to its mission of giving everyone access to new ideas, it will at least serve as a check on powerful companies like Google and Facebook. With Musk, Altman, and others pumping more than a billion dollars into the venture, OpenAI is showing how the very notion of competition has changed in recent years. (Metz C, Wired)

Artificial Intelligence is getting better day by open-aiday, yet when a human-level AI comes within reach is unknown. However, OpenAI says they want to be ready when AI becomes human-level(or even better), at that moment it’ll be important to have a research institution which can lead AI to a good outcome for humanity. As you can sense, there is thought behind this project that AI might not be human-friendly or it might work for Its own interest, not for humanity. So OpenAI is to be sure that It will work on the side of humanity and nature.

It seems OpenAI will be a great investment for the world.

Researchers will be strongly encouraged to publish their work, whether as papers, blog posts, or code, and our patents (if any) will be shared with the world. We’ll freely collaborate with others across many institutions and expect to work with companies to research and deploy new technologies. (OpenAI)

Funders have commited 1 billion dolars for this project, however they will spend just a part of it in next years.

Came-TV Gimbal Stabilizers for Lumix GH4, Sony A7s, BMPCC

Came-TV is known for its gimbal stabilizers for micro4/3 cameras and GoPros. They seem quite solid, durable, and cheap if you consider other branded gimbals.

In the cheapest “Came-Mini” model, all wiring and electronics are enclosed into the frame so you(or operator) does not have to worry about wires. It works with 4x 18650 rechargeable batteries. Its parts are removable to make a smaller pack when transporting. This gimbal stabilizer can be used with Panasonic Lumix GH4, Sony A7s / A7s II / A7R II etc., Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. It can handle that kind of lightweight cameras.

It also has a thumb controller to pan and tilt the camera remotely. Of course, It has different head-following profiles, you can check them here:

Profile 1: Follow Operator Pan and Tilt movement,

Profile 2: Follow Operator Pan Movement (does not follow Tilt),

Profile 3: Disable Follow for both Pan and Tilt.

However, you need to balance it before using. It doesn’t come pre-balanced. You can watch the balancing instructions here:

Its price is starting at $688, and it has some different models as well.

Asus ZenFone Max comes with 5.000mAh Battery! +Full Specifications

Apparently Asus is determined to widen its Zenfone series, It released Zenfone Laser after Zenfone 2, now it is time for Zenfone Max which has 5.000mAh and provides:

  • 38 days standby time,
  • 37.6 hours of 3G talking,
  • 32.5 hours of Wi-Fi web browsing,
  • 72.9 hours of music playback,
  • Video playback of 22.6 hours!

zenfone max 2It has also powerbank feature, so you can charge your friend’s phone just connecting it to your Zenfone Max. The design looks similar, the back cover has been changed with a leather-looking plastic.

Zenfone Max has a Snapdragon 410 64bit processor, which is actually an entry level processor but quite enough for everyday tasks (not for gamers though. Gamers should go for Zenfone 2) Snapdragon 410 probably doesn’t need much power, so It provides more battery life. (With a 5.000mAh battery, It wasn’t a necessity though, performance could have been better)

zenfone max 3It has all ZenUI, camera tricks etc. features that other Zenfones have. The most important thing is the price, which is not known yet.

Still, Asus Zenfone Max seems like a great product for heavy users who don’t want to carry powerbanks or chargers with them. And since Asus could fit 5.000mAh battery into a phone, other companies might want to do the same thing for their models as well! (we hope)

If you’re wondering if it is thick, here is the dimensions:

New Samsung Galaxy A7, A5 and A3 (2016)

Samsung announced the new A series phones: Samsung Galaxy A7, A5 and A3. It seems Samsung will continue this successful mid-range smartphone models with their original names, same premium design but more and enhanced features.(unlike the beautiful but unlucky Galaxy Alpha) This segmentation sounds really cool, like Intel i3, i5, i7 processors. (which is probably the mastermind)

The new Samsung Galaxy A series will be released in China in mid-December, then phones will be available worldwide in 2016 (specific date unknown) Pricing also has not been mentioned yet, bu we hope and assume they will replace the old models as pricing as well.

They have Black, Gold, Pinkgold and White color options.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016)

The new Galaxy A7 (2016) is of course a more powerful smartphone but it has some downsides in terms of size and weight, if you care.

It has a faster 1.6 GHz octa-core processor, running Android 5.1 Lollipop, not Marshmallow yet. It has a brilliant 5.5 inch super AMOLED display with 1080p resolution. Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) now has a bigger 3.300mAh battery with fast charging capabilities. There is 3GB RAM, and 16GB storage which is expandable with Micro-SD cards.

Camera also has got better. 13MP camera now has a optical stabilization (OIS) which is great for both video and photo. Also the lens has a wider aperture (f/1.9) that provides you a better low-light camera. Samsung claims you’ll be able to shoot brighter and clearer photos with this new camera. The front facing (selfie) camera also has the same f/1.9 lens. In terms of camera, A7 (2016) seems quite good and up-to-date. There isn’t any information about 4K video, but it should have 4K video recording if we look at its processing power.

Phone also has fingerprint reader to use for fast payments etc. (Google Payments, Samsung Pay…) It supports 4G LTE connection with 300Mbps speed. (Cat. 6) It is great because most of the budget phones only support 150Mbps, which is half of the speed.

In terms of style, narrower bezel around the screen provides a better viewing experience. The body is made of metal and glass and It feels premium like Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 series. Unfortunately the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) is 7.3mm thick (which is thicker than the old version) and 172g (heavier than the old version). But if it is for optical stabilization and more battery, definitely worth it.

Also there will be a dual-SIM model of this phone.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) Specifications

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016)

A5 (2016) comes with 5.2 inch super AMOLED display with 1080p resolution. (old version was 720p, so there is a good improvement) It also has a new 1.6GHz octa-core processor and 2GB RAM also 16GB storage with expandable Micro-SD slot.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) is also thicker, 7.3mm (was 6.7mm), and heavier, 155g(was 123gr.) But It has got more battery: 2.900mAh (was 2.300mAh)

Camera looks the same 13MP with optical image stabilization and 5MP selfie camera. A5 has a fingerprint reader as well.

Dual-SIM will be available as an option.

Samsun Galaxy A5 (2016) Specifications

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016)

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) has a 4.7″ Super AMOLED unit with 720p resolution. It is powered by 1.5GHz Quad core processor, 1.5 GB RAM and 16GB storage. he camera also got better, It has a 13MP main camera and 5MP selfie camera that have f/1.9 aperture. But Galaxy A3’s camera doesn’t have optical image stabilization.

The battery is 2,300mAh. It is 7.3mm thick and it weights 132gr. Dual-SIM will be available as an option.

Unfortunately A3 doesn’t have a fingerprint reader.

Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) Specifications

Adobe Animate CC is the new Flash Pro

Flash is being used less and less on internet. After the rise of smartphones, html5 and other standards crushed Adobe Flash. Flash ads, video players, games etc. needs more processing power that heats the computer or smartphone more, and reduces the battery life greatly.

So, Adobe has seen this and admitted that Flash has no future, they created this new “Adobe Animate CC”, which has been created to replace Flash. It will be Adobe’s web animation tool for HTML5.

Since most browsers doesn’t allow Flash, and use html5 as a common standard, the change should be easy. There is still a lot of apps and web content that works via Flash, but the change is near.

With Adobe Animate CC,  Adobe actually trying to create a new web standard and keep up with the HTML5 which is the common standard.
